After NEET UG 2026: Answer Key, Result, Rank Prediction & MBBS Counselling — Everything Candidates Need to Know Now

NEET UG 2026 was held today — May 3, 2026. For 26 lakh students and their families, the three hours from 2 PM to 5 PM have now passed. The preparation phase is over. What follows in the coming weeks and months is equally important — and equally demanding. This post covers everything that happens from here until you secure your MBBS seat.

Step 1: Calculate Your Estimated NEET Score Tonight

The very first thing to do after the exam is calculate your estimated score using memory-based questions recalled by coaching institutes.

Use this formula to calculate your estimated score: NEET 2026 Score = (Correct Answers × 4) − (Incorrect Answers × 1)

Within a few hours of the exam ending, coaching institutes including Allen, Aakash, FIITJEE, and Physics Wallah will publish memory-based answer keys compiled from students who appeared. These are not official — but they give you a reliable ballpark of your score and likely rank.

Step 2: Official Provisional Answer Key — Expected Mid-May

The NEET UG 2026 Provisional Answer Key is expected to be released by NTA within 7–10 days of the exam. It will be published on neet.nta.nic.in along with the recorded responses (OMR sheet) for every candidate.

When the provisional answer key is released:

  1. Log in to neet.nta.nic.in with your application number and password
  2. Download your OMR sheet and check every answer against the provisional key
  3. If you find any discrepancy — a question with a wrong answer, an ambiguous question, or a printing error — you can challenge the answer key

Candidates will get a window to challenge the answer key with a non-refundable fee of ₹200 per question.

Challenges are reviewed by a panel of subject experts. If your objection is accepted, the answer key is updated and all candidates benefit — your ₹200 is not refunded but your final score improves.

Step 3: NEET UG 2026 Result — June 2026

The Final Answer Key and NEET UG 2026 Result are expected in the second or third week of June 2026.

NEET UG 2026 result will be declared by NTA. Merit lists and All India Ranks are prepared as per NMC, DGHS, MCC, and AYUSH guidelines.

When the result is declared:

  1. Visit neet.nta.nic.in
  2. Click on “NEET UG 2026 Result”
  3. Enter your roll number and date of birth
  4. View and download your scorecard

Your scorecard will show your total marks, subject-wise marks, All India Rank (AIR), category rank, and qualifying status.

Understanding NEET Cut-Off — What Score You Need

The NEET qualifying cut-off determines whether you are eligible for MBBS admissions — not which college you get. The cut-off varies by category:

Based on previous year trends, the expected qualifying percentile cut-offs for NEET UG 2026 are:

  • General (UR): 50th percentile — approximately 720–137 marks
  • OBC/SC/ST: 40th percentile — approximately 136–107 marks
  • General-PwBD: 45th percentile — approximately 136–121 marks

These are qualifying thresholds — the actual college cut-offs are significantly higher for government medical colleges. Top AIIMS institutes typically require 700+ marks.

How to Predict Your NEET Rank and Eligible Colleges

Several reliable platforms offer NEET rank predictors based on historical data:

  • NTA’s official rank predictor — at neet.nta.nic.in post-result
  • Careers360 NEET Rank Predictor — uses previous year seat allotment data
  • Embibe NEET College Predictor — state-wise and category-wise predictions
  • CollegeDunia / Collegeadvisor — medical college cut-off databases

Input your estimated score, category, and state. These tools show you — based on previous year cut-offs — which government and private medical colleges you are likely eligible for.

Important: Use multiple predictors and treat results as estimates. Actual cut-offs change year-to-year based on the number of candidates, difficulty of the paper, and available seats.

Step 4: NEET UG 2026 Counselling — Your Path to MBBS

The MCC NEET UG Counselling 2026 will tentatively begin in July 2026. The NEET counselling schedule 2026 will be announced after the exam results. There will be four to five rounds of counselling for admissions to UG medical courses like MBBS, BDS, and others. Tracxn

Types of Seats:

AIQ (All India Quota) — 15% of Government Seats: Counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in. This covers all AIIMS, JIPMER, central university medical colleges, Deemed universities, and 15% of government state college seats.

State Quota — 85% of Government Seats: Counselling conducted by the respective state authority. Each state has its own schedule, registration fee, and choice-filling process. You must register in your home state’s counselling.

Private Medical College Seats: Some private colleges use MCC counselling (Deemed universities). Others have their own counselling process. Fees are significantly higher — ranging from ₹15 lakh to ₹1.5 crore per year at private medical colleges.

MCC Counselling Process — Round by Round

There will be four counselling rounds/sessions: Rounds 1, 2, and 3, as well as a Round for stray vacancies. Qualified candidates must register by filling out the form, attaching required documents, and paying the registration fee after the NEET counselling notification is released. Candidates can decline the seat allotted in the first round and compete in the second round to upgrade. If not given a seat in the first two rounds, candidates are qualified to take part in the mop-up and stray-vacancy rounds.

Documents required for counselling:

  • NEET UG 2026 Admit Card and Scorecard
  • Class 10 and Class 12 Marksheets and Certificates
  • Category Certificate (if applicable — OBC, SC, ST, EWS)
  • Valid Photo ID (Aadhaar preferred)
  • Passport-size photographs
  • Medical fitness certificate (issued after seat allotment)

What to Do Right Now — The Next 6 Weeks

Week 1 (May 3–9): Check memory-based answer keys from coaching institutes. Calculate estimated score. Research colleges using rank predictors.

Week 2–3 (May 10–24): Download official provisional answer key when released. Check your OMR sheet carefully. File objections if any answers are incorrect.

Week 4–5 (May 25 – June 7): Result expected in this window. Download scorecard immediately when declared.

Week 6 onwards (June): Register for MCC counselling as soon as the window opens. Prepare your document folder completely.

The exam is done. The journey to your MBBS seat is just beginning. Stay focused, stay informed, and trust the process.
