CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 LIVE — May 6: Latest Update, When It’ll Drop & Your Complete Preparation for Result Day
Over 18 lakh students across India are beginning another anxious morning with the same unanswered question: Has CBSE declared the Class 12 result yet?
As of 9:00 AM on May 6, 2026 — the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 has NOT yet been officially declared. However, based on the latest official updates, it is now closer than ever.
What CBSE Officials Are Saying — Latest Confirmed Update
CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj told Press Trust of India (PTI) that students are likely to get their results in the third week of May, as earlier indicated. He dismissed media reports claiming there were glitches and delays in checking answer sheets under the On-Screen Marking system. The evaluation process is running smoothly and is on schedule.
The result compilation process is in its final stage after completion of evaluation in most centres. CBSE is now focusing on data verification before publishing marks online.
What “data verification” means in practice: After individual evaluators complete marking, CBSE’s central team cross-checks totals, verifies that all answer booklets for each candidate are accounted for, checks for any technical anomalies in the OSM system’s outputs, and runs statistical analysis across schools to flag unusual patterns. This is the final quality gate before results are published. The fact that CBSE is in this stage means the result is genuinely imminent — days, not weeks, away.
May 2026 Board Result Timeline — Where CBSE Stands
As other state boards have already declared, here is the complete picture of where results stand across India:
| Board | Class | Result Date | Pass % |
|---|---|---|---|
| AP Board (SSC) | Class 10 | April 30, 2026 | 85.25% |
| CISCE (ICSE) | Class 10 | April 30, 2026 | 99.18% |
| CISCE (ISC) | Class 12 | April 30, 2026 | 99.13% |
| Maharashtra HSC | Class 12 | May 2, 2026 | 89.79% |

| Gujarat GSEB HSC | Class 12 | May 4, 2026 | Declared |
| CBSE | Class 12 | Expected May 14–21 | Awaited |
CBSE is the final major board result of the season — and with 18 lakh students, it is by far the largest.
This Year’s Key Difference — On-Screen Marking (OSM) System
This year, for the first time, Class 12 answer sheets were checked digitally on computer screens, replacing physical checking. This may help speed up the result process.
CBSE 12th result 2026 is expected in May 2026. The board has not confirmed the exact date yet. Check results.cbse.nic.in for official updates.
The OSM system digitises the entire evaluation pipeline: answer books are scanned at exam centres, evaluators mark responses on screen from home or evaluation centres, the system automatically compiles subject-wise marks, and final data is cross-verified digitally. This eliminates the physical transportation, distribution, and collection of 18 lakh paper bundles — a logistical task that previously added 2–3 weeks to the timeline.
The efficiency of OSM is one reason why analysts expect this year’s result might arrive in the earlier part of the “third week of May” window — possibly as early as May 13 or 14.
Official Portals — Have These Open and Ready
When the result drops, it goes live on all platforms simultaneously. Here is exactly what to have ready:
Primary portals:
- results.cbse.nic.in — Will crash within minutes of declaration; use as primary attempt only
- cbse.gov.in — Secondary attempt
- cbseresults.nic.in — Additional portal
Reliable backup (USE THIS FIRST):
- DigiLocker app (download now if not already installed) — Handles traffic far better than the main portals and issues an official digitally signed marksheet immediately
Most colleges accept the downloaded version from DigiLocker for provisional admission — keep it saved until the original arrives.
No-internet option:
- SMS: Type
CBSE12followed by your roll number → Send to 7738299899
Passing Criteria — Understand Before Results Drop
As per CBSE rules, students must score at least 33% marks separately in both theory and practical exams to pass. Those who fail in one or two subjects will be allowed to appear for compartment exams, which are likely to be held in August.
Passing thresholds by paper format:
- 80-mark theory + 20-mark practical: Minimum 27 marks in theory AND 7 marks in practical
- 100% theory subjects: Minimum 33 out of 100
- Both components must be passed independently — a high practical score does not compensate for failing theory below the minimum
What to Do the Moment Results Are Declared — Your Action Checklist
In the first 10 minutes:
- Go to DigiLocker first — it loads fastest
- Download your marksheet and save to cloud (Google Drive/iCloud) instantly
- Take a screenshot as a second backup
- Check every subject mark individually
In the first hour:
- Verify your name, date of birth, and all subject names are correctly spelled
- Calculate your percentage across your best 4/5 subjects (as required for DU, Jamia, BHU admissions)
- Contact your school immediately if any mark appears incorrect
Within 24 hours:
- Shortlist colleges and courses based on your actual marks
- Check admission portal opening dates for your target colleges
- If your CUET UG exam is still upcoming (May 11–31) — shift your focus back to CUET preparation immediately after processing your result
If you received a compartment:
- Students who fail in one or two subjects will be allowed to appear for compartment exams, which are likely to be held in August.
- Apply for the compartment exam through your school within the deadline — this window is typically 7–10 days and is firm
- One focused month of preparation for one subject is entirely sufficient to clear a compartment
For Parents — How to Support Your Child on Result Day
Result day is emotionally intense — not just for students but for families. Here is what actually helps:
Before results: Avoid repeatedly asking when results will come or expressing anxiety about their marks. Students are already feeling the pressure.
On result day: Let them check results privately first if they prefer. Avoid reacting dramatically in either direction — excitement that seems disproportionate or disappointment that seems crushing both make the experience harder for the student.
After results: Remind them clearly — and mean it — that this result is one chapter in a very long and open story. The careers of India’s most successful people are filled with redirections, second attempts, and unexpected paths that turned out to be better than the original plan.
The result will come this week. Prepare everything, stay calm, and be ready.
